SMELLY UGLY BOOTS

This is a tender and playful children’s book about change, feelings, and learning to say goodbye without losing what mattered. Through muddy puddles, crunchy leaves, and honest emotions, this is a story for kids who resist change, and for adults who want to help them through it without forcing the lesson.

About the Author

tina calleri

Tina Calleri writes stories that understand children instead of talking over them. Her work is rooted in empathy, observation, and the small moments that shape a child’s inner world. Tina believes children deserve stories that take their feelings seriously, stories that don’t rush them toward lessons, but walk beside them as they figure things out. With this book, she captures a simple childhood moment and turns it into something meaningful, relatable, and lasting. Her storytelling is honest, warm, and grounded in the belief that emotional growth matters just as much as imagination.

ABOUT THE Book

SMELLY UGLY BOOTS

Jenny loves playing outside. She loves adventures. She loves her old boots. What she doesn’t love is shopping or being told it’s time to replace something she still cares about. When Jenny’s mom insists on new boots, Jenny feels overwhelmed, frustrated, and sad. The new boots are shiny and cute, but they don’t feel like hers. At least not yet.
What follows is a gentle journey through resistance, compromise, discovery, and acceptance. Jenny doesn’t learn because she’s told to, she learns because she experiences it herself. This book speaks directly to children’s emotional world. It shows that it’s okay to feel attached, it’s okay to feel unsure and it’s okay to grow at your own pace
Perfect for bedtime reading, classroom discussions, or quiet moments between parent and child.

What Readers Say About The Book

“My son laughed at the muddy parts but what stuck with him was the goodbye to the old boots. He actually realized that it’s okay to miss things and still move on. That moment alone made this book worth it.”

Joe. K, Parent

“Simple, warm, and thoughtful. The story flows naturally, and the message isn’t forced. It’s the kind of book kids enjoy and adults quietly appreciate.”

Moris. R, Children’s Book

“This book sparked one of the sweetest bedtime conversations we’ve had. My child started talking about things he’s afraid to outgrow. That’s powerful for a story that looks so light on the surface.”

Casie. G, Caregiver

“My daughter had a hard time letting go of things she loved and this book opened the door for such a meaningful conversation. She kept talking about Jenny’s boots long after we finished reading. That’s how I knew it worked.”

Janis. L, Parent of a 5-year-old

“This story understands children. It doesn’t rush them or talk down to them. The emotions feel real and the lesson lands gently. I’ve already read it twice in my classroom and the kids relate immediately.”

Kelly. B, Kindergarten Teacher

“What I appreciated most is that the book doesn’t pretend change is easy. Jenny’s resistance felt honest and her growth felt earned. It’s refreshing to read a children’s story that respects a child’s emotional process.”

Carl. A, Early Childhood Educator
